US singer-songwriter Noah Kahan has said he is “so honoured” to be releasing the lead single for the upcoming Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping album.
The 29-year-old US singer announced his new track, Draw You Out, will be out on October 2 ahead of the forthcoming film based on the dystopian franchise by Suzanne Collins.
The sixth film follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, one of the few Hunger Games winners-turned mentors from the same district as the original trilogy’s protagonist Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence.
In a post shared on Instagram, Kahan said: “This is something I’ve always wanted to do and I am so grateful for the opportunity to write for this moving film, having adored the works of art by Suzanne Collins.”
The prequel follows Haymitch as he is drawn to fight in the 50th Hunger Games, a violent entertainment set up to maintain control in the fictional country of Panem, leaving his girlfriend, Lenora Dove, behind.
The games will see Haymitch face double the amount of tributes, two boys and two girls, who were selected from each district.
Kahan added: “I was already totally connected and inspired by the tragic yet hopeful story of Haymitch and Lenore Dove, and writing a song about the purpose, grief and perseverance through pain that they exemplify was an experience I’ll always be grateful for.
“This is an incredible film, and I am so honoured to be a small part of it.”
He joins previous stars who wrote music for the franchise including Taylor Swift’s Safe and Sound with The Civil Wars, which featured in the soundtrack of the first film and Olivia Rodrigo’s Can’t Catch Me Now which was written for the fifth film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
The upcoming blockbuster stars Ralph Fiennes as the cold and calculated President Snow opposite Kieran Culkin’s Caesar Flickerman, Elle Fanning’s Effie Trinket and Jesse Plemons’ Plutarch Heavensbee.
Glen Close will also appear in the prequel as chaperone Drusilla Sickle along with Billy Porter who plays stylist Magno Stift – who is also her onscreen husband.
The lead single will be out on October 2 and followed by the full 29-track album which features a range of cross-genre artists.
Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping will be out in cinemas from November 20.
