Donald Trump's high-profile endorsement of Amir Hassan triggered an online backlash on Truth Social ahead of the Michigan 8th Congressional District primary 2026, as sections of the MAGA base wrongly assumed the Flint-born Republican was a Muslim.

The president on 28 July 2026 posted his 'Complete and Total Endorsement' for Hassan, a military veteran and law enforcement officer running in Michigan's 8th Congressional District, ahead of the high-stakes primary contest on 4 August.
