The gardai have yet to established a motive for the "violent murder" of Ballymun mum-of-two Lisa Thompson.
The 52-year-old's body was found with up to 12 stab wounds at around 3.30pm yesterday afternoon.
Detectives are awaiting post-mortem results but believe she may have been killed in a frenzied attack.

In an update on the "shocking" case, Superintendent Darren McCarthy appealed to anyone with "any information on this violent murder" to contact Ballymun Garda Station.
He said: "Lisa had been the subject of a serious physical assault and suffered significant injuries.
"The scene at Sandyhill Gardens remains preserved and technical and forensic examinations of the house is ongoing by the garda technical bureau.
"Lisa's body was removed yesterday to the City Morgue, Whitehall and the chief state pathologist Dr Linda Milligan has commenced a post-mortem this morning."
An incident room has been setup at Ballymun Garda Station and a senior investigation officer has been appointed to oversee the case.
A family liaison officer has been appointed to Lisa's family and An Garda Siochana will continue to keep the family informed and supported at this time.
Superintendent McCarthy said Lisa "was well known in her local community which is shocked over the violent and dramatic death of Lisa."
No motive has been established by gardai for the killing and all lines of enquiry and being followed up, Superintendent McCarthy said.
He added: "An Garda Siochana continues to investigate all the circumstances of this murder and we will continue to examine all lines of inquiry and have an open mind as to the motive of this attack at this time.
"An Garda Siochana have established no motive at this stage in relation to this matter. All the information that has been received is being put into the investigation team to assist in this investigation."
The gardai were not aware of any alleged threats on Lisa's life and there were children present in the house at the time of the killing.
Superintendent Darren McCarthy appealed to anyone with "any information on this violent murder" to contact Ballymun Garda Station.
He said: "Lisa's death occurred some time before the discovery of her body in her home yesterday at 3.30pm. In particular, I am appealing to any person with any information on Lisa's movement from Saturday May 7 up to yesterday, Tuesday May 10, to contact us."
The Superintendent also appealed for any video footage from the Sandyhill area of Ballymun and the surrounding roads for the same period.
