No Jail for Day Care Worker After 1-Year-Old Boy Tests Positive for Cocaine

A former day care worker in Wisconsin has been sentenced to probation instead of jail time after a 1-year-old in her care tested positive for cocaine.

Earlier this year in May, police were alerted after medical staff at Children's Wisconsin discovered cocaine in the system of a little boy brought in by his mother, Kimberly Hopson, for scratches and marks on his body.

Investigators found cocaine in a backpack located in the infant room of the KinderCare facility in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, where Passion Watson worked. She later admitted to using cocaine recreationally but denied knowledge of the drugs in her bag, Fox 6 Now reported.

Watson, 24, was arrested, terminated from her job, and faced charges of child neglect and possession of cocaine.

On November 18, Watson pleaded guilty to one count of possession of cocaine near a child care center. Her sentence includes 120 days at a community center, stayed in favor of probation.

Watson is set to serve 15 days at the center and is required to complete 100 hours of community service and adhere to strict drug treatment. Her probation prohibits any contact with KinderCare's Oak Creek location.

KinderCare and the Department of Children and Families are conducting separate investigations of the incident.
