No evidence of ‘tactical contact’ before fatal A66 crash, police watchdog finds

An initial investigation into a head-on collision on the A66 near Middlesbrough, which killed two police officers and five young men, has found no evidence of “tactical contact” or the use of a stinger in the moments before the crash, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has said.

The crash between a Volkswagen Passat and a marked Cleveland Police vehicle occurred at South Bank in the early hours of August 22 and followed a police pursuit which was abandoned.
