'No chance' - Wesley Fofana claims Chelsea teammate is faster than PSG star Kylian Mbappe

Chelsea star Wesley Fofana has claimed that one of his club teammates is quicker than PSG forward Kylian Mbappe. The latter has always been praised for his pace since breaking through at Monaco, but the addition of quick thinking and technical skill has led him to become one of the top players in the world.

Fofana had played against the 24-year-old in his time with French club Saint-Etienne, where he had the task of dealing with the forward. It has been a while since they faced off, but the pair could soon be lining up alongside each other after reports surrounding a potential senior call-up to the France senior squad for Fofana.

While that is a possibility, he may be able to reassess the pace the forward has once again after claiming one of his fellow Chelsea stars is faster. That was January signing Mykhailo Mudryk, who joined for a huge £88.5million fee from Shakhtar Donetsk, showing plenty of promise early on.

In a challenge on the Chelsea YouTube channel, the Ukraine international was asked to guess which statistics he had on his card from the FIFA video game series. When he claimed he would have the best pace, the host asked Fofana if Mudryk was the fasted player he had played against.

"Yeah," replied the former Leicester City man, before Benoit Badiashile hit back with: "And Mbappe?" Fofana seemed adamant, hitting back with: "No chance [Mbappe is faster]. It's finished."

It should perhaps come as little surprise to some that this may be the case, especially given the comparisons to Mbappe that Mudryk received before his move went through. Former Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu was one of many to make that claim, believing there were clear similarities.

"Mudryk is a copy of Mbappe," Lucescu told reporter Emanuel Rosu back in January ahead of the switch. "It will be great to see him play at a higher stage than he is right now. His qualities and perspectives can't be questioned."

It remains to be seen if the youngster can hit the heights that Mbappe has already set at such a young age, but if he can, the Blues have a gem on their hands.
