Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi has confirmed that there have been no casualties or damage reported in Japan following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan. The earthquake triggered tsunami warnings in Japan, but early reports indicate that the first tsunami waves were small, measuring under 30 centimeters (11 inches), on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa.
Hayashi stated during a press conference that while the initial waves were minor, the second and third waves generated by the quake are expected to be larger. Despite this, the tsunami warnings for Japan have been downgraded to an advisory.
Hayashi urged residents in affected areas to remain on higher ground as a precautionary measure. The Japanese government continues to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.
