The big-hearted team at Nith Valley Embroidery in Sanquhar have answered a “Twosday” plea from almost 4,000 miles away in Pakistan.
Tuesday was a rare palindrome date with the date 22-2-22 reading the same backwards as forwards. It proved popular with wedding couples wanting an usual date, with 32 couples tying the knot in the Gretna Parish.
It also brought a Facebook appeal from philatelist Yar Muhammad Kakar, who collects postcards and covers, and was desperate for a postcard of Sanquhar sent with the official stamp from the Upper Nithsdale town’s oldest working post office in the world.
Appealing to “everyone in Sanquhar” in his post to the town’s Facebook page, he wrote: “Sanquhar post office is my favourite and I have made a small collection from Sanquhar post.
“ It is a fancy date – 22-2-22 – and I wish someone mails me a postcard on this particular date for addition to my collection.”
It was taken up by Nan and Stuart McKenzie and Heather Grierson of Nith Valley Embroidery, who first had the challenge of creating a postcard featuring Sanquhar landmarks.
Business owner Nan said: “When we saw his appeal we just wanted to help.
“We are proud of our historic post office and, with the special date it is no wonder he was keen for a postcard with an official Sanquhar stamp.
“However, there weren’t any Sanquhar postcards so we had to photographs and create our own for him.
“We did a few and Heather went to the post office with some on Tuesday and got them stamped and posted them out to Pakistan.
“They’ve turned out really good and we are delighted with them, so we are now going to have them on sale at Nith Valley Embroidery for locals and tourists to buy in future.”
He said: “Wow very nice. Than you for mailing it to me. I really don’t have the words to express my gratitude. May almighty Allah keep you all safe and blessed. Amen. Amen. Amen. Best best regards.”
