Nintendo has given fans their first proper look at the world waiting for them in its upcoming remake. The reveal offers a broader view of Hyrule than anything shown so far, giving longtime players a fresh way to size up just how much of the kingdom they will get to roam.
Nintendo Unveils 'The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time' Map
Nintendo shared an official overworld map for "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" remake, giving players their clearest view yet of the rebuilt kingdom of Hyrule ahead of launch. The reveal followed the 40th Anniversary Direct held on September 8, where producer Eiji Aonuma walked through gameplay footage for the first time since the remake was originally announced back in June.
Sharing a full map this far ahead of release is a notable move for Nintendo, since the company has traditionally kept the scale of its Zelda worlds under wraps until much closer to launch.
Putting the map out now gives fans time to compare it against their memories of the original Nintendo 64 layout, while also building anticipation by confirming just how much of Hyrule has been rebuilt for the new hardware.
Official Map of Hyrule: Explore the Region Now
According to GameRant, the map lays out the full scope of Hyrule as rebuilt for Nintendo Switch 2, spanning familiar locations such as Kokiri Forest, Hyrule Field, Death Mountain, Zora's Domain, and the Gerudo Desert. According to the Direct presentation, Hyrule Field now offers direct sightlines toward both Hyrule Castle and Death Mountain, letting players see much of the region they will eventually explore just by standing in the open plain.
Kokiri Forest has also been expanded with new paths and denser vegetation, while sections of Hyrule Castle Town that once served only as background scenery are now fully explorable areas.
What to Expect From 'Ocarina of Time'
The remake keeps its story and cast intact, following Link as he grows from a young Kokiri boy without a fairy companion into the Hero of Time, tasked with stopping Ganondorf and protecting Hyrule using the power of the Ocarina and the Triforce.
What has changed is how players move through and experience that story. Link can now jump, swim, sprint, and dive, with a free camera giving far more control during exploration than the fixed angles of the original. Combat has also been reworked, adding motion-controlled aiming for weapons like the slingshot along with quicker weapon switching between items.
Nintendo also confirmed a full day and night cycle running throughout Hyrule, and added voiced dialogue for supporting characters, with Link himself remaining silent as in past entries.
A new feature called Threads of Time lets players check story progress and their next objective at any point, tied to a large tapestry that fills in gradually as the adventure moves forward.
When Is 'Ocarina of Time' Remake Releasing?
"The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" remake is set to launch on November 5 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, priced at $59.99.
The release date was announced as part of the same 40th Anniversary Direct that introduced the new gameplay footage and overworld map, giving fans a firm date after months of speculation that followed the game's initial reveal earlier in the year.
