Nintendo Direct rumored to take place next week, rounding off Summer Game Fest season

Ocarina of Time 3D.

As Summer Game Fest season continues on, of course Nintendo Direct rumors are picking up steam, with one reportedly happening next week.

Nintendo has largely been on a February, June, and September Direct schedule for years at this point, however, the company has been going a bit rogue recently. Last year, we got March, April, and September Directs, whereas the year before – and this year – February was skipped entirely. So, the destined Nintendo Direct schedule is no longer a given.

Some people have even thought that Nintendo Directs are going to become a rarity as Nintendo has been dropping random announcements like Star Fox and Splatoon Raiders through the Nintendo Today app. However, from the sounds of things, we'll be getting a June Nintendo Direct this year as part of the overall Summer Game Fest festivities.

Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb spoke on an episode of his podcast Last of the Nintendogs saying "I've heard Tuesday" for a potential direct, specifically "Tuesday morning," which would fit the 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST Nintendo Direct timing that the company has had for its last few presentations. However, Grubb clarifies that "things get a little messed up," and that there's potential for it to be on Wednesday, instead.

Nate The Hate – who has become a big name in the Nintendo leaks community over the last year or so – also plans to release a podcast later today in which the Direct timing will be talked about, which could potentially back up Grubb's comments. Presumably, this Direct is where we could see his remaining leaks like the rumored The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and new Switch Sports release, after his Star Fox leak already came to fruition.

Be sure to take a look at our Summer Game Fest schedule to see what game showcases are already announced, and when they're happening.
