A 19-year-old New South Wales man has pleaded not guilty to murdering a man in broad daylight in Canberra's city centre last month.
Kenan Dowden-Carlisle from Greenleigh, just outside Queanbeyan, did not appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday morning but entered a plea of not guilty via his defence lawyer.
Mr Dowden-Carlisle has been charged with murdering a 29-year-old man who was allegedly killed near an alleyway in Garema Place mid-morning on Saturday, December 4.
Mr Dowden-Carlisle was arrested in Civic hours after the man's death and has remained in custody at the Alexander Maconochie Centre ever since.
Police prosecutors also today asked the court for more time to work on their case, telling Magistrate James Stewart additional preparation time was required due to the "gravity of the charge."
Prosecutors also revealed as many as 15 witnesses had not yet been interviewed and the footage from about 50 CCTV cameras had not yet been examined.
They added that key forensic reports were also outstanding.
Magistrate Stewart granted the request with the matter due back in court on April 1.
