Brandon Aiyuk has asked the San Francisco 49ers for a trade and while the team has balked at his request, that hasn’t stopped speculation about where the receiver could end up if a trade does happen.
Kyle Madson of Niners Wire recently listened to hypothetical trade offers from managing editors of other NFL Wire sites to gauge what kind of market Aiyuk could have if he does hit the trade block.
Broncos Wire proposed sending Courtland Sutton and a third-round draft pick to San Francisco in exchange for Aiyuk. Acting as a hypothetical GM, Madson declined that offer and sent an outrageous counteroffer:
- SF gets: CB Patrick Surtain II, 2025 first-round pick
- DEN gets: WR Brandon Aiyuk
Unfortunately, I couldn’t slam the phone on Madson because we were typing on Slack, but the counteroffer was quickly rejected.
It would be nice to acquire a receiver as talented as Aiyuk, but it makes more sense for the Broncos to keep the best cornerback in the NFL than to acquire a top-10 receiver. Not to mention keeping their first-round pick.
It’s hard to imagine Denver trading their No. 1 pick in 2025 for Aiyuk. There’s no way they’d trade their top pick and Pat Surtain for Aiyuk.
You’ve gone mad, Madson. No deal. No counteroffer. Sit in Slack and think about what you’ve done. We’re leaving negotiations.
