A nine-year-old Perth schoolgirl hailed for saving a boy from drowning - despite not being able to swim - has been shortlisted for a bravery award.

Tierney Batt rescued Cayden Paterson (12) from the River Tay at Moncreiffe Island last July, after she had seen him struggling in the water.

His cries for help went unheard by adults so Tierney entered the water.
