A spokesperson for the Lough Swilly RNLI said: "Lough Swilly RNLI were paged at 8.13am this morning to come to the assistance of a fishing vessel with five people onboard 25 nautical miles off Malin Head.

"The boat had developed mechanical problems and they contacted Malin Head Coast Guard for help."

The spokesperson continued: "The lifeboat volunteers established a tow and took the boat to safety before returning to Buncrana to refuel and make ready for service.

"Remember, if you’re in difficulty in or on the water or see someone in trouble, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard."
