During recent protests in Washington, DC, the DC Police reported that a total of nine individuals were arrested for various offenses. Two individuals were arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer near Union Station after allegedly pushing law enforcement officials. Additionally, two more individuals were taken into custody for crossing a police line following an assault on an officer, as stated by DC Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith.
At a separate location near the Capitol, five individuals faced charges of Crowding, Obstructing, or Incommoding after reportedly using locking devices to connect their arms together and obstruct traffic flow. Chief Smith emphasized that while many individuals peacefully exercised their First Amendment rights, there were those who chose to disregard the law.
Chief Smith expressed her gratitude to the members of the Metropolitan Police Department for their efforts in collaborating with local, state, and federal partners to maintain safety in the District of Columbia. She also acknowledged the community for their support in ensuring the well-being of all residents and visitors.
Prior to these arrests, the US Park Police had also detained eight individuals in connection with the protests at Union Station. The coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies aimed to uphold public safety and enforce the law during the demonstrations in the nation's capital.
