Nikon will service your old SLR film camera, but only for a limited number of people for a very limited time

Could your old Nikon SLR or optics do with a little TLC? Well, Nikon Japan is offering its MF Old Product Maintenance Service for a very limited time only. The news comes by way of Digital Camera Watch, and it’s not the first time the ‘Big N’ has opened its doors to retro wares. No doubt a reaction to the boom in film photography in recent years.

Sadly, it’s still only available for customers who reside in Japan, so anyone in the United States and Europe will miss out. It’s only open for applications for roughly a month (September 1 to October 30), and the service can take around three months upon the goods’ arrival at the Nikon Repair Center (Yokohama).

Nikon says that the service is only available via direct delivery to Nikon Repair Center or by telephone and that applications are not accepted through the service center counter or online.

The Nikon Repair Center is able to inspect and clean eligible items, including the Nikon F, Nikon F2, Nikon F3, Nikon FM, Nikon FM2, Nikon FE and Nikon FE2, as well as a range of retro Nikon optics. It would appear, as per previous instances, that the service is largely designed to inspect and clean eligible products, not supply and install replacement parts.

Want more film-related Nikon goodness? I bought the only film camera I’ll ever need: the Nikon FM is an SLR in its purest form. I think the Nikon FE is a perfect first film camera. Here’s why… I love the Nikon FM2, it was only discontinued in 2001, and that should tell you everything you need to know.
