Nikola Katic scores FC Zurich stunner as former Rangers star gets off the mark in style

Nikola Katic blasted home a goal to remember as he opened his account for FC Zurich in style.

The former Rangers defender capitalised on a defensive header before taking a volley first time and blasting it beyond the Servette stopper - who had no chance of keeping the effort out. His goal was the second of four strikes for his side as they ran out 4-1 winners on the day. Team-mate Aiyegun Tosin grabbed a hat-trick but the headlines will remain with the ex- Ibrox defender after his stunning strike.

It was a massive win for the home side and current champions who are sitting bottom of the Swiss Super League. They sit four points behind second bottom Winterthur after defeating the club sitting second in the current standings. Young Boys are currently well out on front at the top of the pile . Katic's revival continues in post Rangers life after putting in an impressive display in the FC Zurich defence against Arsenal in a recent Europa League meeting. He's made 11 appearances in all competitions to date with his stunner his first goal for his new club.

"The centre-half initially joined the club in the summer of 2018 before extending his contract in 2019.

"Defender Katic immediately bought into the club since signing, he went on to make 59 appearances in blue and scored six goals across the Scottish Premiership, Europa League, and League Cup including a winner at Parkhead in 2019.

"Niko leaves a Ranger with everyone at Ibrox wishing him well for the next move in his career."

Katic and Co will now go into the break flying with the World Cup taking centre stage. They return to domestic action on January 21 with an away clash at Luzern before a home game with St Gallen.
