Nightclub vows to boot out ‘smelly’ revellers who have ‘body odour or bad breath’

A nightclub has warned smelly punters they will be booted out of the venue.

LGBTQ+ venue Tiny, in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, penned the "polite notice" on its Facebook page and said anyone who doesn't abide will be asked to leave.

Management believe staff and customers at the Albert Road nightspot have the right to be in an environment "where they don't gip at the smell of your breath or bodily odours".

Bar staff will be "supported by management" in asking people to leave the venue, if they believe someone's body odour is becoming a problem, reports TeessideLive.

"C'mon guys," a post on the club's Facebook page reasons, "it's just decent innit".

The club has since said the post was supposed to be in 'good humour' (Ian Cooper / Teesside Live)

The club's management said: "Please ensure good bodily hygiene when visiting Tiny.

"Our staff and customers have the right to work in an environment where they don't gip at the smell of your breath or bodily odours.

"If you are old enough to be drinking and visiting clubs and bars, you are old enough to be able to practice good personal hygiene.

"We all have an off-day every now and again where we forget to pop some spray on or whatever. Just ask at the bar.

"We will try our best to find something to help... But if it becomes a habit.."

"We have instructed our staff that they will be supported by management if they believe that someone is causing discomfort to others," it added, "then they may ask them to leave. Polite Notice over stay safe."

In a separate statement, a spokesperson for the club added: "The post was meant in good humour, but it has started to annoy us all a little bit.

"It's become a bit of a common thing.

"If you are adult enough to go on a night out...we're not a creche, we don't want to have to teach people to put spray on or brush their teeth.

"We've lost custom because of it, people have left because of the smell.

"We are all about inclusivity. But when our staff's eyes are watering because of the smell over the bar it's not good."

The club has recently opened its cocktail bar upstairs and launched a new sweetie cocktail menu.
