MUMBAI: Indian customs authorities are investigating a surge in soybean imports declared as originating in Niger, suspecting the cargoes came from Nigeria and were mislabelled to evade import tariffs, according to sources and a customs letter seen by Reuters.
Niger was the biggest declared supplier of soybeans to India in the first seven months of this year, trade ministry data showed, despite producing no significant quantity of the oilseed.
