Nicolas Pepe provides Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer update to plucky Arsenal fan

Nicolas Pepe has given the entire Arsenal fanbase an insight into the future of his Gunners teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang while away on international duty.

Arsenal's record-signing is a long way from north London as he aims to inspire his Ivory Coast side to Africa Cup of Nations glory in Cameroon but club matters are never far away as the winger found out during some down-time at his team's hotel.

The £72m wide-man was pressed on whether Aubameyang will remain an Arsenal player beyond this transfer window amid speculation surrounding his future after he has been exiled from the first-team fold by manager Mikel Arteta.

A short video released on social media showed an Arsenal fan asking Pepe "Is Aubameyang leaving or his he staying?" which prompted an interesting response from the Ivorian.

The former Lille man replied "I don't know. I think he'll stay, but I don't know."

Aubameyang has been touted with an Emirates exit ever since he was stripped of the Gunners captaincy in early December following his latest disciplinary breach.

The 32-year-old is alleged to have returned late from a mid-season trip to France to see family and as a result was demoted from his role as captain.

In turn, Aubameyang's club future has been the subject of intense speculation as the former Borussia Dortmund forward reportedly has potential suitors both in Europe and in Saudi Arabia.

The likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Newcastle United are all rumoured to have thrown their respective hats in the ring in a bid to entice Aubameyang, but his wages are a stumbling block for many sides on the continent.

Elsewhere, Saudi club Al Hilal are thought to be willing to pay all of the striker's astronomical £350,000 per-week wages on a season-long loan before potentially making the deal permanent in the summer, as per the Daily Mail.

Arsenal's hierarchy are expected to welcome that kind of proposal, but the decision still lies with Aubameyang given he has 18 months left to run on his deal in north London.

The 32-year-old was recently also in Cameroon participating in AFCON, but failed to play a single minute for Gabon after he contracted Covid-19 on the eve of the tournament's start.

After Aubameyang was left out of the clash against Ghana, reports emerged that there were fears he would have been a health risk as pre-match tests determined he had "cardiac lesions".

The former Gunners skipper has since returned to London where he has confirmed he is healthy and ready to train.

In a post uploaded to Instagram, Aubameyang wrote: "Hi guys, I came back to London to do some additional checks and I'm very happy to say that my heart is absolutely fine and I'm completely healthy!

"Really appreciate all the messages over the last few days and I'm already back at it."
