Nicola Sturgeon teases publication of second indy paper on Twitter

Nicola Sturgeon will publish the second of her independence papers on Thursday

THE First Minister has teased the publication of the second paper in her series outlining the Government’s vision for an independent Scotland.

The document is set to be published on Thursday morning and will focus on "democracy and democratic renewal".

Nicola Sturgeon tweeted about the upcoming paper on Wednesday evening.

She wrote: “Tomorrow I will publish the second in the Building a New Scotland series of papers, refreshing the case for independence. This one focuses on democracy and democratic renewal, and could not be more timely. Watch from 11am on @scotgov channel #indyref2”

The first of the papers was published last month and was described as a “scene setter” for how the Government envisages Scotland after the breaking of the Union.

Titled “Independence in the Modern World: Wealthier, Happier, Fairer: Why Not Scotland?”, it looked to "define the UK model and explain its enduring structural problems".

It drew comparison to 10 other similar-sized countries in Europe - Ireland, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Iceland, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, and Finland - and used them as examples of smaller nations that the paper claimed to be wealthier than the UK.

As a whole, the “Building a New Scotland" series is designed to address the opportunities and challenges that an independent Scotland will face after a Yes vote.

Focusing on ‘democracy and democratic renewal’, many will expect the second paper to directly tie into the Government’s plans to hold indyref2 in October later this year.

It may also touch on the upcoming battle in the Supreme Court which will decide if the Scottish Government has the power to carry out the vote.
