Nicola Bulley's family able to plan funeral as coroner confirms body to be released

A coroner confirmed Nicola Bulley's body can be released for her grieving family to lay to rest.

An inquest into the death of mum-of-two Nicola was formally opened at Lancashire Coroner's Court today (Wednesday). The 45-year-old had been missing for more than three weeks when her body was found in the River Wyre on Sunday (February 19), around a mile from where she was last seen.

Senior coroner Dr James Adeley told the inquest Nicola had been identified through dental records. A full inquest will be held on June 26 at County Hall in Preston, Lancs Live reports.

As part of the investigation Lancashire Police were asked to produce information gathered during the search for Ms Bulley.

A statement from HM Senior Coroner for Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen, Dr James Adeley read: "An inquest into the death of Nicola Bulley has been opened by HM Senior Coroner for Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen.

"The coroner also ruled that her body could be released for a family funeral. The Coroner's Investigation will consider how Ms Bulley came by her death.

"The investigation will take time to complete to ensure that as complete a picture as possible of the facts concerning Ms Bulley's death is presented at the inquest. This will assist the family in understanding what occurred.

"As part of this process, HM Senior Coroner has requested Lancashire Constabulary produce information gathered during the search for Ms Bulley so it can be considered as part of the investigation.

"Whilst HM Senior Coroner considers this information, Lancashire Constabulary have been asked by HM Coroner not to discuss the case in either social media or the mainstream media. The inquest has been listed to be heard at 10 AM on 26 June 2023 hours at County Hall, Fishergate, Preston."
