Broadcaster Nicky Campbell's daughter Lilla suffered serious injuries after a hit and run with an e-bike rider in South London yesterday.

Campbell, 65, took to Instagram to say that Lilla, 26, and his family faced "a long and emotional night" after the crash, which occurred while Lilla was out in Peckham with her three sisters.

According to Campbell, the e-bike rider "scarpered" but the evening's trauma continued as Lilla and her sisters waited in A&E at King's College Hospital only for a "drunk" man to expose himself in front of them.

Lilla was 'badly injured' in the crash but is now recovering in home. Mr Campbell praised hospital staff and the Met Police as "magnificent" following the man's arrest.

He wrote online: "My daughter Lilla was hit by an e bike hit and run last night in Peckham - hopefully there is CCTV. Once he saw the ambulance arrive (2mins) and the crown gathering - he scarpered.

"Her sisters were with her. She is badly injured but now at home. It could have been so much worse. We are incredibly lucky.

"Then when she and her sisters and a friend arrived at A&E a drunk entered the trauma room where they were and exposed himself to them.

"The police were there and he has been arrested. The police were magnificent. I spoke to them when I arrived at 3.15 and he is now in custody.

"We all want to say a massive thank you to our amazing police, the wonderful staff at Kings College Hospital - nurses and doctors. Calum and the team. From the bottom of our hearts. were all bloody superb."

Lilla is the second of Campbell's four daughters that he shares with his wife Tina Ritchie, a former Virgin Radio presenter. Lilla's sisters are Breagha, 28, Kirsty, 24, and Isla, 22.

In recent years, Campbell found himself at the centre of a historic child abuse inquiry in Scotland, after being abused by school teachers John Brownlee, now 91, and Hamish Dawson – who died in 2009 – during his time at the Edinburgh Academy.

He first wrote about his experiences of abuse at the the school in his 2003 memoir Blue-Eyed Son and later gave comprehensive public details on his BBC Sounds podcast Different on July 2022. Campbell also went on to testify at the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry on August 22, 2023.
