Nicky Byrne says he is keeping his options open about returning to radio

Nicky Byrne hopes to still host Dancing With The Stars when he goes on a global tour with Westlife next year.

And the singer said he is keeping his options open about a return to radio.

The foursome are set to go back on the road with the band’s Wild Dreams tour, which kicks off on July 1 in Kent in the UK.

The band are set to tour Asia and China next year as countries reopen after the Covid-19 pandemic - but Nicky said he still hopes to report for hosting duties with Jennifer Zamparelli if the show returns next year on Rte One.

The singer said: “Hopefully. Dancing With The Stars dates aren’t in yet, Westlife dates for 2023 aren’t in yet so hopefully.”

The star has hosted the popular RTÉ show since 2017 with Amanda Byram before Jennifer Zamparelli joined him in 2019.

Nicky also didn’t rule out a return to 2FM radio either, saying he would like to keep radio in his life.

The Malahide star left 2FM back in 2019 after five years, admitting he was “broken hearted” he had to quit the station.

But he said he always likes to keep his options open on returning.

“Not tomorrow morning anyway, I’m going to bed tonight,” he joked.

“Yeah, I mean, radio is something I always want to keep in my life. The tour with Westlife is coming up, we’re starting off on July 1 in Kent in the UK, then Colchester and later that week we come back over to do a couple of nights in the Aviva and then the tour. "It’s pretty much every weekend right up until October until we start doing arena shows in the UK and Ireland.

“And then next year we’ll have to look at Asia and China, and different parts of the world.”

Nicky admitted he is really looking forward to the upcoming tour.

He said: “We’ve all had a strange few years, so it was nice to get the new album out and to head out on tour again… It’s going to be good to get back out with the lads.”

Nicky also revealed he thought fellow band mate Mark Feehily was “robbed” when he didn’t win The Masked Singer.

Mark went undercover as Robobunny in the ITV show but missed out on winning the final.

Nicky said only Shane Filan is left to a reality show and he teased the possibility that one of them could sign up for Dancing With The Stars.

He said: “Do I think I could influence or encourage the (Westlife) lads to go on the show? I don’t know is the honest answer to that.”

“I did Strictly in 2012, Kian (Egan) did I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. The other boys hadn’t done anything reality wise, and then Mark [Feehily] surprised us all in The Masked Singer – which he was brilliant on by the way. I thought he was robbed, I thought he deserved to win that.”

“Would they do a show like this? I think never say never. I wouldn’t have ever said that before, but I think down the road, you never know who will pop up on this show.”

The Dubliner added: “Shane (Filan) is the one we need to convince. Kian has the crown at the moment. He is the only one who has won something, because I didn’t win Strictly and Mark didn’t win The Masked Singer.”

Speaking ahead of the final of Dancing With The Stars this Sunday, Nicky said: “Probably the best four dancers are in the final and that is not me being disingenuous to anybody else because everybody has come so far and worked so hard.

“I spoke to the guys earlier in rehearsals and every one of them are shot, they’re broken and tired. They’re done this show now for 11 weeks on TV.

“They’re absolutely shattered… they’re loving it and they’re giving it all,” he added.
