Nicki Minaj made a triumphant return in late 2023 with her highly-anticipated album, Pink Friday 2, marking her first new release in five years. The album quickly gained traction on the Billboard charts, with a significant surge in sales during the tracking period.
According to data from Luminate, sales of Pink Friday 2 saw a remarkable increase of over 150% in pure purchases. The album re-entered the Top Album Sales chart, securing the 28th position with 2,962 copies sold in the tracking period from February 9 to 15.
Despite the surge in sales, Pink Friday 2 faced a decline in overall consumption, with a reported 8.7% decrease across all listening formats. The album slipped on various Billboard rankings, including the Billboard 200, where it moved from 18th to 24th place, accumulating 24,155 equivalent units from sales, individual song purchases, and streaming.
While Pink Friday 2 maintained a strong presence on the Top Album Sales chart, it experienced drops on other Billboard lists such as Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Top Rap Albums, and Top Streaming Albums, where it had previously held top positions.
To sustain the momentum of Pink Friday 2, Nicki Minaj continued promoting the album with two singles, notably “Everybody” featuring Lil Uzi Vert. The track dominated the Rhythmic Airplay and Rap Airplay charts, and previously claimed the top spot on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay list.
