Following Alabama’s improbable comeback win in Saturday’s Iron Bowl, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban was just as baffled as everybody else.
“Believe it or not we work on that,” Saban told CBS Sports’s Jenny Dell, when asked about quarterback Jalen Milroe’s game-winning touchdown pass. “It was just a great throw by Jalen [Milroe] and a great catch by Isaiah [Bond]. I mean, we work on it, but you’re just throwing it up for grabs, really, and we came down with it.”
Speaking of coming down with the touchdown pass and escaping a road upset, Saban gave a nod to the weird losses he’s endured at Auburn in the past as Alabama’s coach.
“There’s been some weird stuff to happen here. And this is the first time I can remember it going in our favor,” he said with a laugh.

Faced with fourth-and-goal from the Auburn 31-yard line, Milroe stepped back to throw, bought some time, and threw a strike to the back corner of the end zone to Bond, who somehow came down with the pass to clinch the go-ahead score.
With the win, Alabama finished the regular season with an 11–1 record, and a perfect 8–0 mark in SEC play. The Crimson Tide will face Georgia in the SEC championship next Saturday with a shot at the College Football Playoff on the line.
