Nick Montgomery details disappointment at Sky Sports mic ruling

Nick Montgomery has spoken of his disappointment after the SFA blocked Sky Sports from micing him up for tonight’s Edinburgh derby.

The Easter Road boss was set to go under the spotlight in tonight’s fixture with a first-of-its-kind set-up allowing television viewers to hear Montgomery’s management from the touchline via a microphone.

But ahead of kick-off tonight Sky confirmed Montgomery would not be taking part in the link-up due to the SFA stepping in and citing IFAB rules.

Quizzed on the late call off, Montgomery said: “Look, it is something that we agreed on.

“As a club we were willing to embrace it in order to really showcase the league and this special derby, because it is a special derby.

“Two clubs steeped in history and there is a real passion and desire between both sets of fans.

“All we can do is control what we can and that is our preparation going into the game and the way that we can conduct ourselves on the pitch.

“We have prepared well and now the players have to execute the game plan with the added pressure of it being a massive derby game.”

Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd added: “Yeah, it is a shame. You want to move the game forward and I think people up here have enough to say about Sky.

“When you are trying to do something to improve it, make it better and give the fans an insight into what it is like behind the scenes it has been blocked.

“We move on. It is Scottish football.”
