Niall Horan 'staying away' from watching The Voice US after 'struggling' with coaching

Niall Horan has admitted he is "staying away" from watching The Voice US after "struggling" to make "hard decisions" as a coach.

The 29-year-old said he knows how "tough" it can be for those who don't make it through, having rose to fame as a contestant on X Factor.

Niall made his debut appearance on The Voice US last week as the hit talent show finally returned to our screens.

He admitted it's been a little strange to go from a contestant on a similar show to now coaching singing hopefuls.

"It's strange coming from the X Factor days to now and being on the other side of things. I'm basically seeing multiple different versions of myself on the show in front of me.

"Seeing these really young 16, 17-year-olds reminds me of me when I was there and I'm struggling to make those hard decisions, he said in a new interview.

The former One Direction star said he empathises with the contestants and insisted it isn't "as easy at it looks" to step out on the stage.

"It's tough because I know how I would have felt if I hadn’t have got through at the time. It's not as easy as it looks," he said during an appearance on Hits Radio.

Speaking about his decision not to watch The Voice US, he added: "The show only just came out and apparently it went down well.

"We can’t watch it in the UK at the moment so I'm staying away. I don't really want to watch it - it could be a disaster!"

Niall has started a friendly rivalry on The Voice US with his co-star Blake Shleton, who is set to leave the show after 23 seasons.

Blake announced he's quitting the show back in October as he shared a heartfelt statement on Instagram.

He said: "This show has changed my life in every way for the better, and it will always feel like home to me.

"It's been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns, and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best.

"It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week."

He added: "I've made lifelong bonds with Carson [Daly] and every single one [of] my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife Gwen Stefani!"
