The couple killed in a crash on Rainbow Bridge at the US-Canada border have been named as Kurt and Monica Villani.
The pair, both 53, were identified by Niagara Falls Police Department on Friday.
They had been on their way to a KISS concert when the crash happened and the border was closed over fears the crash was a terror attack.
The couple, who had been married for more than 20 years, were in a luxury Bentley being driven by Mr Villani.
They were residents of Grand Island, New York, less than ten miles south of where the crash took place. They were married in May 1995.
Police have said that the couple were seen leaving the Seneca Niagara Casino, close to the border crossing, before crashing. Investigators have still not established what caused the crash.
The FBI were drafted in but terrorism was ruled out within hours of the incident on Wednesday.
The car was caught on footage speeding into a border patrol booth before being flung into the air from the impact and bursting into flames. An official at the crossing suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Members of the community on Grand Island paid tribute to the pair who were known for their charitable work and popularity with neighbours.
A family statement said: "We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all that [have] extended prayers, condolences and well wishes. We are deeply touched. At this point, we would request privacy so we may begin the process of healing."
Resident Mary Meyer said: "You know, just plowing everybody's driveway for the love of it, you know what I mean? Just always willing to help and lend a hand. Always. always, always. They were just so very, kind wonderful people."
Chuck Meyer added: "Without ever being asked, they would just be giving and gifting, and that's the type of people we lost."
The couple have two children Kurt Junior and daughter, Mia.
The family operated Gui's Lumber which has seven locations, including one in Niagara Falls, where Wednesday's fatal crash took place.
The chain began with Villani's father, Kurt M. Villani, in 1986.
