Sinn Féin continued its dominance over the Fermanagh and District Council area after 21 of its councillors were elected during the NI Council Elections 2023.
After a two day count at the Omagh Leisure Complex which spanned across Friday and Saturday, Michelle O'Neill's party emerged as the largest in the district with 6 seats more than the 15 they held previously.
Sinn Féin will now hold a majority in the council chamber for the next term.
The Alliance Party made history in the district by electing its first councillor in Fermanagh, with Eddie Roofe contributing to another Alliance surge by picking up a seat in Enniskillen. He joins party colleague Stephen Donnelly who retained his seat in Omagh.
The DUP managed to claw back ground from the UUP as they now hold six seats (up from five) in the council area, with the UUP holding seven (down from nine.)
It was an election to forget for the SDLP in Fermanagh and Omagh as they lost two of their five councillors, with Mary Garrity, Paul Blake and John Coyle all losing their seats. However the party did make a gain in Mid Tyrone where Bernard McGrath edged out outgoing independent Emmet McAleer.
It was a tough election for independent candidates all around as Cross Community Labour Alternative and Save Our Acute Services campaigner Donal O'Cofaigh lost his Enniskillen seat, with Sinn Féin's Dermot Browne getting in at his expense.
Paul McGoldrick also lost an independent seat in Erne West to Sinn Féin.
In the Omagh DEA, Independent Josephine Deehan picked up the last seat at the final count after a transfer boost from her former party, the SDLP.
Eamon Keenan also lost his seat in Erne East as Sinn Féin made a gain there with Noeleen Hayes picking up a third seat for the party in that DEA.
The total numbers of councillors elected by party in Fermanagh and Omagh was:
Sinn Féin - 21 (+6)
UUP - 7 (-2)
DUP - 6 (+1)
SDLP - 3 (-2)
Alliance - 2 (+1)
