Bottle banks are to be removed from caravan sites across a council district as a new holiday season is about to begin.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council (NMDDC) brought forward the proposal as it states new legal advice has labelled the recyclable bottle bin collection as commercial waste.
The local authority expects to save £3k by removing bottle banks from eight caravan sites as the touring season opens at the end of March.

A NMDDC officer said: "In 2019, the council introduced a standard mixed dry recyclable refuse collection service across the district, which provided for the deposit of glass in blue bins and negated the need to continue to provide bring site services.
"In June 2020, the council approved the reduction of 61 licensed recycling bring sites to 22.
"This included the council's 10 household recycling centres, caravan sites and Tyrella and Cranfield beaches.
"The continued provision of bottle bank provision at caravan sites is in contravention with legal advice regarding commercial waste.
"It is there for recommended that caravan site owners with bottle 'bring bank' provision are contacted to inform them of the intended removal of the bottle banks prior to their removal."
The recycling proposal agreed at committee, will now go to full council to be ratified.
