NI American football team holding Belfast 'biggest ever Frat Party'

A Northern Irish American football team are hoping to put on the 'biggest Frat Party' Belfast has ever seen to recognise the growing sports community across the country.

The NI Razorbacks American Football Team will be taking over Franklins Sports Bar in Belfast city centre on September 21 to bring a new meaning to freshers week with the full 'American college experience'.

Mike McCauley, Vice President NI Razorbacks, told Belfast Live that he hopes the event will draw up more interest in 'Ireland's fasting-growing sport' and allow enthusiasts to get together and chat about the sport.

"Nothing says American-themed events like football, beer pong and red cups. So when are committee suggested hosting a Frat Party during Freshers week at Franklin's Sports Bar, it really was a no-brainer.

"Our team is an absolute dolly mixture of people, from cross-fitters to DJs, Students to...we will just say a few older lads - we are all brought together by our love of Football. American Football is actually the fastest growing sport on the Isle but you always get an eyebrow raise when you say that you play for an American Football team and that can be said for the majority of American Sports teams in NI.

They hope it will be 'Belfast biggest Frat Party' (Paul McIllwane)

"For such a small place, Belfast has a massive American Sports community and it's getting bigger with more and more American Sports Teams popping up. We've have College Football games held in Dublin, NFL games played in the UK and even our own league's version of the "Superbowl" held at Kingspan Stadium a few months back."

The team pride itself on being accessible to everyone and anyone. From a team that was originally formed by the PSNI in 2015, the Razorbacks have gone on to completely diversify, having players from all walks of life with the team motto "Respect All, Fear None".

He continued: "Football is absolutely everywhere and there's never been a better time to get involved. The Frat Party is a chance for us to share our love of football and share a pint with other American Sports enthusiasts. It's also a chance for us to settle who the best beer pong player is on the team!"
