NHS losing 80 staff a day due to work-life balance pressure

he NHS is losing an average of 80 members of staff a day due to a poor work-life balance. A total of 113,583 people voluntarily left the NHS between January and September 2022, according to the latest data released by the organisation.

Some 21,080 of those did so because of their work-life balance. That works out as one in five (19%) of all resignations in that time.

There were 7,162 resignations due to work-life balance in the last quarter alone. That equates to an average of 80 members of staff a day. And the situation is only getting worse.

The 7,162 work-life resignations recorded in the three months to September is the highest for any quarter on record. In the previous quarter there were 6,873 such resignations. Before that, there were 7,045 such resignations, and in the previous quarter there were 7,032.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the highest number on record for any given quarter was 5,070, with an average of 3,560 per quarter.
However, in 2022 the average stands at 7,027 per quarter.
