The Pittsburgh Steelers spent their first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft on quarterback Kenny Pickett and he has all the markings of a franchise quarterback. But the NFL pundits Mike Florio and Peter King don’t tend to agree. The two partook in a four-round quarterback draft of signal callers under 25 and after four rounds, Pickett was not selected.
Here’s how the four rounds played out:
1 – Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
2 – Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
3 – Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
4 – Justin Fields, Chicago Bears
5 – Daniel Jones, New York Giants
6 – Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
7 – Mac Jones, New England Patriots
8 – Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins
If you are wondering which writer chose Patriots quarterback Mac Jones in the fourth round ahead of Pickett, it was King. “I think I am going to take Mac Jones over Kenny Pickett,” King said.
Pickett came on strong in the second half of his rookie season. Pickett took over for Mitch Trubisky in Week Four and struggled with turnovers. But down the stretch, going 6-2 in his final eight starts and only threw one interception. The idea he is worse than Jones or even Murry or Fields at this point is puzzling.
