The Washington Commanders, leading the NFC East with a 7-2 record, made a significant move ahead of the NFL trade deadline by acquiring four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the struggling New Orleans Saints (2-7). This trade bolsters the Commanders' defense, which is already ranked No. 5 against the pass. In exchange for Lattimore, the Saints received a third-round pick, a fourth-rounder, and their own sixth-round pick that was previously sent to Washington. Additionally, the Commanders received a fifth-round pick along with Lattimore.
The Detroit Lions, leading the NFC North with a 7-1 record, added defensive end Za’Darius Smith from the Cleveland Browns to address the void left by an injury to star Aidan Hutchinson. The Browns, with a 2-7 record, sent Smith and a seventh-round pick in 2026 to Detroit in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2025 and a sixth-round pick in 2026.
The Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) acquired wide receiver Mike Williams from the New York Jets in exchange for a fifth-round pick in next year’s draft. Williams, who had 12 catches for 166 yards in nine games with the Jets, will now be catching passes from Russell Wilson for the Steelers.
The Dallas Cowboys (3-5) struck a deal with the Carolina Panthers (2-7) to acquire wide receiver Jonathan Mingo and a seventh-round pick in 2025 for a fourth-round pick next year. Mingo, a second-round pick last year, has 12 receptions for 121 yards in nine games and will provide depth for the Cowboys.
The Cincinnati Bengals (4-5) added running back Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears (4-4) in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round draft pick. Herbert, with eight carries for 16 yards and one touchdown for the Bears, will join leading rusher Chase Brown to bolster the Bengals' backfield.
Several other teams have also made moves to strengthen their rosters before the trade deadline, including the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, and New York Jets, who have all acquired playmakers in recent weeks. The NFL extended the trade deadline this year, allowing teams more time to improve their rosters.
