NFL star Daniel Jones contract price set with New York Giants future uncertain

Daniel Jones is no closer to agreeing an extension with the New York Giants and looks set to hit the free agency market where he could be set to sign for the highest bidder.

Players who are set to be out of contract will officially become free agents on March 15, but can speak to teams two days beforehand and are free to sign elsewhere in what is shaping up to be an exciting few weeks in the NFL.

Jones' price was named earlier this off-season when he reportedly asked to be paid $45million annually, with the latest reports suggesting he wants more than that.

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reported that Jones' representatives are now asking for more than $45m annually, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

That would make Jones, a quarterback who has played at a below league average level up until this past season, one of the highest paid players in the league.

Jones had career-best numbers in almost every possible statistic tracked this past season, but has had an up and down three years prior to that, not living up to the hype after being drafted with the sixth overall draft pick in 2019.

It is unclear if the Giants will meet his demands, as Jones is expected to have a host of interest elsewhere if he does not resign.

The New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints could all make a move for Jones - all of which are looking to replace their starting quarterback in what looks to be an off-season in which a number of signal-callers will move teams.

The current off-season will be significant for a number of big-name quarterbacks, with Lamar Jackson reportedly eager to secure a new contract with the Baltimore Ravens worth a reported $250m. Former MVP Aaron Rodgers could hit the trade market as well, leading to a potential merry-go-round of quarterbacks.
