NFL Rescinds Controversial Fine Against Jets’ Breece Hall

Breece Hall received some good news Saturday morning.

The New York Jets running back had been fined $43,709 for “unnecessary roughness” for a play made during a Week 13 game against the Atlanta Falcons. After catching a short pass, Hall lowered his head as Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell pursued to make the tackle.

The Jets halfback was not penalized for the play, but the league felt it was an illegal play, especially after Terrell was later placed in the concussion protocol. But on Saturday, the NFL rescinded Hall’s fine after an appeal, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The fine initially was met with criticism from Hall, who took to X, formerly Twitter, and openly wondered how else he was supposed to protect himself on the play. Hall’s fine stood out as egregious to some in the NFL community, including retired star J.J. Watt, who was among those who took exception to the fine

Fortunately, it appears the league did right by Hall with the decision to rescind the penalty.
