NFL owners are reportedly set to announce who will host the Super Bowl in 2026.
With the start of the 2023 season a few months away, the NFL are already making plans for one of the most watched sporting events in the world. State Farm Stadium, the home of the Arizona Cardinals hosted Super Bowl LVII back in February, which was won by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now a fresh report in the Sports Business Journal states that the NFL are ready to name the Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco as the home of Super Bowl LVX in 2026. While a decision is yet to be formally announced, the article says that the venue will be selected for hosting the event in a little under three years time.
The hosts for the next two Super Bowls have already been confirmed, with the Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, selected for the 2024 instalment. That will then be followed by the Caesars Stadium, home of the New Orleans Saints, which will host Super Bowl LVIX in 2025.
While it’s expected that the San Francisco 49ers will be the hosts of Super Bowl LVX, it happens to fall in a year where the event may not be as much of a priority. A previous report from the Sports Business Journal from back in April stated that there is less of a desire from teams to host the game due to the FIFA World Cup taking place a few months later.
The United States of America, Canada and Mexico will all jointly host the World Cup in 2026m, and many of the stadiums which could have hosted the Super Bowl will be used throughout the summer for World Cup games. The trio of nations will follow on from Qatar, who were the hosts of last year's tournament which was won by Argentina.
The article says that there is “less demand” to host the Super Bowl in 2026 because of the World Cup taking place a few months later. It’s also stated that the 49ers had been in discussions over hosting the event, with a formal announcement expected at the NFL owners’ meeting later this month.
There have already been a confirmed number of 16 venues that will take part in hosting the biggest football tournament on the planet. While the majority will be in the USA, there will also be three in Mexico and two in Canada.
The USA will have 11 venues, which include the Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco. They are joined by other host cities including Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City, Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York and Boston.
In Mexico, the host cities will be Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City. While in Canada, they will have just two host cities in Vancouver and Toronto.
