NFL Network reporter says Steelers preparing to make Minkah Fitzpatrick highest-paid NFL safety

A top priority for the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason is to get star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick a contract extension. According to NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, the contract is almost done and it is set to make him the richest safety in the NFL.

The highest-paid safety in the league right now is Jamal Adams of the Seattle Seahawks. Adams’ contract has a total value of $70 million with $21 million fully guaranteed and a $17.5 million-per-year average.

Pittsburgh could also look at a contract of the Denver Broncos’ Justin Simmons, who has the largest fully guaranteed deal among safeties at $32.1 million.

Fitzpatrick is headed into his fourth season with the Steelers and has established himself as one of the best all-around safeties in the NFL. He has 11 interceptions in three seasons with the Steelers and has scored two touchdowns. In 2021, Fitzpatrick took on a much larger role as a run defender and finished with a career-best 124 total tackles. Despite his best season, Fitzpatrick missed being named an All-Pro for the first time since being traded to Pittsburgh in September 2019.
