NFL megastar Joe Burrow shows his class with touching off-field mental health gesture

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has helped contribute towards a local children’s hospital.

Burrow, with the help of his parents, Jimmy and Robin Burrow, has the Joe Burrow Foundation. The charitable organisation helps support children with their mental health, as well as families who are working to overcome food insecurity.

The 26-year-old was the number one draft pick for the Bengals in the 2020 NFL Draft. In his second season as their starting QB, he helped lead the AFC North team reach Super Bowl LVI, but lost to the Los Angeles Rams.

Burrow has thrown 82 total touchdown passes in his three seasons as the Bengals' starting QB, including a career-high 35 last year. His performances in 2022 saw him rank 10th overall in ESPN's quarterback rankings in 2022.

Burrow’s parents recently appeared on The Mental Game Podcast, hosted by Brandon Saho. It was on the podcast that the pair revealed the latest contribution from the foundation.

They revealed that the Joe Burrow Foundation paid for 20 families to receive mental health treatment at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. This is one of the latest contributions from the foundation, which was set up back in October last year.

“When I started teaching, I would come home and tell little stories of things that were breaking my heart,” said Robin Burrow on the podcast. “It’s sad when families don’t have the resources or the means to be able to get the things that they need.

“So I think that he (Joe Burrow) heard a lot of stories and took them to heart.”

Joe Burrow’s father, Jimmy, also said: “The first thing we did was, there were about 20 families at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital that had mental health issues and were getting treatment there. The families had trouble paying the bills, so we started thinking ‘well, let’s see how many we can pay’.

“Then there were about 20 of them, so we just couldn't decide so we paid for 20 families’ mental health bills.”

Burrow recently returned to training for the Bengals as preparations for the 2023 season begin to ramp up. The QB was filmed in training sporting some new attire, which included a headband to accompany his new look.

The quarterback will be taking part in the off-season workouts as the plans for the 2023 season begin for the Bengals. They will have pre-season games against the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and Washington Commanders, before traveling to face the Cleveland Browns on the opening day of the regular season on September 10.
