The life of a highly drafted quarterback is never easy, and they could have a career that ends well before it starts. For Sam Darnold, he is about to have his last chance at success.
As training camp kicks off on Wednesday, Darnold finds himself in a rather unique situation. After being drafted third overall by the New York Jets, the former USC Trojan has played for a total of three teams since 2018, and the Vikings will make it four.
While speaking on the show The Insider, NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo spoke bluntly as it relates to Sam Darnold.
“This is the time. There’s no more excuses or anything with Sam Darnold. This is the best situation, by far, that he has had in his NFL career, so lets see if he can show that promise that made him the number three overall pick years ago.”
He is one hundred percent right about Darnold. He has to know he isn’t the plan for the future within the Vikings organization, that title goes to J.J. McCarthy. This is essentially an auction for him in front of the rest of the NFL.
The team hopes he makes it a tough decision about when to pivot to McCarthy, but expectations remain timid.
