NFL head coach caught on camera admitting "I f***** up" during private sideline chat

Mike McDaniel was disappointed not to get one over on his former team and head coach in the San Francisco 49ers and Kyle Shanahan as his Miami Dolphins were handily defeated on the west coast.

It was an under-par performance by the red-hot Dolphins, especially on offense where MVP candidate Tua Tagovailoa had a rough performance, throwing two interceptions as the Niners dominant defence came through once again.

In one particular incident, a promising Dolphins drive stalled when a Niners blitz saw NFL sack leader Nick Bosa able to get home and sack Tagovailoa, which lead to a frustrating moment between head coach and quarterback.

When in conversation, the camera then scanned over to them both and caught coach McDaniel taking accountability for the failed drive, as he was seen saying: "I f***** up", to his quarterback.

Without their star offensive lineman Terron Armstead, the Dolphins were always going to struggle to protect Tagovailoa against the one of the league's best defences, as Bosa finished with three sacks on the day to cap off a strong showing.

The Dolphins themselves boast arguably the most explosive offenses in the league, and whilst they could not stop Tyreek Hill (146 yards and one touchdown), their offense largely stuttered throughout the game with Tagovailoa missing on a few key throws.

It's just the latest moment in which McDaniel has ingratiated himself to NFL fans as a first-year head coach who seemingly does not take himself too seriously, whilst being one of the better offensive minds in the league.

McDaniel had spent the last 11 seasons working under Niners head coach Shanahan, before being offered the Dolphins job this season, coming up against his former boss and close friend for the first time in the 33-17 loss.

The Niners were forced to play the majority of the game with their third-string quarterback, as Brock Purdy came in for Jimmy Garoppolo, who has suffered a season-ending broken foot. Purdy was drafted with the very last draft pick of the 2022 class, and looked reasonably impressive in the game as he lead the Niners to the win.

San Francisco could be boosted by potentially bringing in Baker Mayfield though, who was released today and will be subject to the waiver list.

Should 22 teams not pick him up, the Niners will be able to, inheriting only $1.8million (£1.4m) against the cap - with the team having more than enough to acquire him.
