The release of the regular season schedule means one thing: way-too-early record predictions all over the place. 2024 is no different and we’re here to round up some expert predictions from across the web to get a sense of how people think the Jets will do this upcoming season. Will the Jets make a big improvement from last season’s 7-10? Let’s see what the media thinks.
FOX Sports
Henry McKenna of FOX Sports has the Jets finishing 10-7.
The Jets, Dolphins and Bills are extremely comparable teams. I think the Bills are the best of the bunch, if only because of Josh Allen. I think the Dolphins have the easiest schedule. And I think the Jets are right in between; the least proven but near the Dolphins in terms of strength of schedule. That’s how I landed on New York sitting at this spot, tied with the Bills in record — but below Miami. Aaron Rodgers will be back, though there’s no saying how effective he’ll be. But GM Joe Douglas injected a lot of money and, hopefully for New York, a lot of talent into this roster, particularly on offense. There’s so much to like about this team on paper.
Bleacher Report
Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton’s prediction for the Jets is 10-7.
Many expect the New York Jets offense to take off like a rocket once Aaron Rodgers returns to action. However, they should examine offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett’s resume.
Hackett hasn’t experienced much success apart from head coach Matt LaFleur during their three-year stretch (2019-2021) with the Green Bay Packers. During that period in Green Bay, LaFleur called the plays.
According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, the Jets tried to hire another offensive coach to “run the show” over Hackett this offseason. The 40-year-old Rodgers, who tore his Achilles four snaps into last season, may not be able to cover up his play-calling shortcomings.
Rodgers may need more help than he’s had in recent seasons. The Jets spent the offseason going all-in on bolstering his supporting cast.
Gang Green acquired right tackle Morgan Moses from the Baltimore Ravens and signed left tackle Tyron Smith, guard John Simpson and wideout Mike Williams in free agency. In the 2024 draft, they added tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu and wide receiver Malachi Corley in the first and third rounds, respectively.
Rodgers has layers of protection and plenty of playmakers to target in the passing game, but Hackett’s track record could lower the ceiling of the Jets offense.
Gang Green’s defense will keep most games within reach of a victory. Rodgers and his playmakers just need to execute—perhaps in spite of Hackett.
Pro Football Network
Dakota Randall of Pro Football Network is going with 9-8 for the Jets.
The 33rd Team
Another 10-7 prediction, this one from Marcus Mosher from The 33rd Team.
This offseason, the New York Jets did a better job protecting themselves against a possible Aaron Rodgers injury by adding a viable backup quarterback (Tyrod Taylor) and throwing a ton of resources at the offensive line.
And the additions of OTs Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses make the Jets a much more dangerous team. We’ll see how Rodgers looks coming off the torn Achilles, but this is an outstanding roster with a ton of talent on both sides of the ball.
Cynthia Frelund, NFL Network
Using her advanced analytics model, NFL Network’s Cynthia Frelund has the Jets’ win projection at 9.6 wins.
I am SO looking forward to Week 1, when the Jets head to Santa Clara to face the 49ers. It’ll be really cool to see Aaron Rodgers play near where he grew up in his return from injury and in what will be the de facto restart to his Jets career. I played around with my models by equating win totals and volatility to a 100-point scale. The Jets’ schedule is almost 23 scale points more favorable than the Bills’, which is the biggest disparity between teams that ranked first versus third in their division last season. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, but the Jets’ O-line and defensive depth will likely determine the team’s ceiling this season.
