The only member of the Pittsburgh Steelers 2023 NFL draft class who remains unsigned is cornerback Joey Porter Jr. Porter was the first of the Steelers two second-round picks along with defensive tackle Keeanu Benton.
Pro Football Talk NFL analyst Mike Florio was on 93.7 The Fan and said he believes the holdup with Porter’s contract is the fault of the front office.
This is about the Rooney’s trying to hold the line between the push-pull between the league and the players,” Florio said.
In simplest terms, the reason the two sides are at odds here has to do with where Pickett was drafted. Technically, Porter was the first pick of the second round. But in any other draft, being the No. 32 overall pick makes you a first-round pick. So there are certainly some issues over guaranteed money and total money. Until the two sides can sort things out and there is some level of compromise between the two sides, this one isn’t going to be solved.
Two weeks out from camp, the Steelers have not agreed to terms with Joey Porter Jr.
Mike Florio from @ProFootballTalk told @ThePoniExpress & @ChrisMuellerPGH why.
