Next MOTD Presenter Odds Reveal Likely Lineker Replacements

With the news that Gary Lineker will be stepping down as Match Of The Day host at the end of this season, the SportsCasting traders have priced up the next MOTD presenter odds. With three current BBC employees heading the market.

Alex Scott Favourite In Next MOTD Presenter Odds Market

So, after plenty of rumours over the last few months, we now know that Gary Lineker will blow the full-time whistle on his Match Of The Day career at the end of this season.

The BBC stalwart will step down from the 25-year role he’s made his own, but there are reports that he’ll still be involved with the BBC for the 2026 World Cup.

Anyway, this has prompted many to speculate who will be the next MOTD presenter – and land one of the biggest jobs in TV and football.

Jermaine Jenas Would Have Been A Big Favourite For MOTD Role

A few months ago, Jermaine Jenas would have been a clear front-runner with the best football betting sites in the UK to get the job.

However, his off the field antics that saw him getting sacked by the Beeb have left his hopes non-existent.

Which means with Jenas out of the running, this will be a huge bonus for Alex Scott. Who is the early favourite in the next MOTD presenter odds market.

Scott, who has impressed with her Football Focus hosting duties since taking over from Dan Walker in 2021 and has been installed as the odds-on favourite to replace Gary Lineker.

The former Lioness, who was capped by England 140 times, has been a regular stand-in for Lineker on Match Of The Day, so it’s easy to see why the BBC would turn to Scott as a safe bet to get the coveted role.

Lineker calling time on his MOTD career is also welcome news for Scott, who had been rumoured to be getting frustrated at the lack of support and opportunities.

Plus, she had pondered a move to the US with her popstar girlfriend Jess Glynne with her BBC contract up for renewal in 2025. This might have to be binned, if she gets the role.

Could MOTD2 Anchorman Mark Chapman Get Promoted To The Top-Flight?

Just behind Alex Scott in the next MOTD presenter odds betting is BBC regular Mark Chapman at 2/1.

51 year-old Chapman is the main Match Of The Day 2 host and would be seen as a ‘safe option’ by the BBC to get promoted to the main show.

Micah Richards Also Not Ruled Out As Third Favourite In The Next MOTD Presenter Odds Market

One of Lineker’s main pundits on MOTD, Micah Richards is also not ruled out as third favourite in the market.

Richards and Lineker are also seen most weeks with Alan Shearer on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast.

However, the BBC would be taking more of a punt on the former Man City player stepping up from pundit to host.

Paul Gascoigne Suggests Alan Shearer (or even Gareth Southgate) Should Be The Next MOTD Presenter

In a recent interview with Sportscasting, former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne is also backing a fellow Newcastle man in Alan Shearer to be Gary Lineker’s replacement.

While he’s also put forward the ex-England manager Gareth Southgate after saying he’s been doing a bit of commentary.

With Lineker quitting Match of the Day, I wonder if Shearer is going to take over, or Southgate because he’s been doing a little bit of commentary. I reckon Shearer will take over because he loves a bit of money. He’s so tight he only cries from one eye! So for me it’s between Shearer and Southgate.”

The odds of Shearer landing the role are 50/1 with Southgate a slight bigger 66/1.
