Next Celtic manager odds as Tottenham confirm Ange Postecoglou move

Celtic have begun their search for a new head coach following the departure of Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have confirmed their appointment of the Australian as Antonio Conte's replacement on a four-year contract. Postecoglou departed Celtic after two years in Glasgow's East End, ending with a domestic treble after beating Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-1 in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park on Saturday.

The Bhoys had immense success with Postecoglou, winning two titles with the 57 year-old at the helm, and replacing him will not be easy. Among the front runners with the bookmakers are former Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers and Pep Guardiola's assistant manager at Manchester City Enzo Maresca.

In a lengthy statement released on Tuesday morning confirming Postecoglou's departure, Celtic stressed that the appointment of his successor will not be rushed. "The process of appointing Celtic’s next football manager is already underway," the club said.

"While we will aim to announce this appointment to supporters as soon as possible, our priority will be to appoint the best candidate to take the club forward." Bookmaker Bet365 has Rodgers, recently sacked by relegated Leicester City, as the second-favourite for the Celtic job at 7/2.

Maresca is the 9/4 favourite, while West Ham United boss David Moyes is a much longer 8/1. Bet365 clearly fancy the two front-runners to be in contention to take over at Celtic with other names like Postecoglou's assistant John Kennedy at a much bigger price of 10/1 and former Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch at 12/1.

"I would like to sincerely thank everyone at the club for everything they have given me," Postecoglou said of leaving Celtic. "In particular, Dermot, Peter and Michael and the Celtic board have shown me tremendous support in every aspect of my time at Celtic and I will forever be grateful for this.

"They brought me to the Club and I have worked so closely and so well with them for the past two years, I will always have a special relationship with them. "They wanted me to extend my time at Celtic and while I am so respectful and understanding of their position, a new opportunity has been presented to me and it is one which I wanted to explore."
