Raatea (4.45, nap), a solid sprint handicapper over the summer, can make his mark at seven furlongs as he returns to the scene of his last victory.
The five-year-old ran out a comfortable winner over six furlongs on Newcastle’s Tapeta track in June, taking the lead in the final furlong then pulling away to score by two lengths.
He was badly drawn in the Steward’s Cup at Goodwood but was a real eye catcher on his next start at the Doncaster St Leger meeting over six and a half furlongs when running on late to snatch fourth.
A strong gallop and stiff track suits so the extra distance should not be an issue for the Julie Camacho-trained gelding. On the same Newcastle card ART POWER (5.45, nb) has the chance to rediscover his winning form in a five furlong conditions race.
After making a delayed start to his turf campaign he produced a dominant display to win a Group 3 at The Curragh in September but could not repeat it in the British Champions Sprint at Ascot. This should be a more straightforward task.
