News and notes from Cardinals’ Friday practice

The Arizona Cardinals final injury report of the week will be revealed later today, but head coach Jonathan Gannon provided some updates prior to Friday morning’s practice.

Noting that cornerback Max Melton is “still working through the (concussion) protocol,” he was then asked about Melton being in the yellow jersey Wednesday during individual drills, but listed as limited on the injury report, which pertains to reps in the team portion of practice.

Gannon said, “That’s part of his protocol. Every case is different with that. As the week goes on, everybody’s a little bit different; how they handle that. There’s steps and checks and balances, which there should be, obviously. Part of that was he was allowed to be out there (and) why he was in the jersey he was in. Didn’t really want a lot of contact with him. That’s one of the reasons. He had a good day.”

So good apparently, that a little more than an hour later, Melton was dressed out on the practice field like all the players and wearing a helmet.

Asked if there was any concern with quarterback Kyler Murray being listed with a knee injury Wednesday and Thursday, but having full participation, Gannon said, “No. All good.”

Murray had a sleeve on his right leg those days, but was without it Friday.

Wide receiver/return specialist Xavier Weaver, who was inactive in Week 1 against Buffalo because of an oblique injury, was limited both days. Gannon said, “(Weaver) had a good day and he should be good to go.”

Also asked there is any clarity on right tackle Jonah Williams’ right knee injury, Gannon said simply, “No.”

Defensive lineman Darius Robinson (calf) and tackle Christian Jones (knee) were both doing work on the side.

Finally, running backs coach Autry Denson will not be at Sunday’s game against the Rams because of “a family matter,” and Gannon added, “So him and his family are in our prayers.”

Pass game specialist Spencer Whipple will handle Denson’s game-day responsibilities.
