Newry woman creates podcast designed to inspire other mums

A NI woman has created a podcast designed to inspire other mums.

Patrycja McMahon, who is a beauty and aesthetics therapist and a beauty educator, has launched the 'Boss Mum' podcast "to inspire, give ideas and opportunities to mums who want more from their lives".

The Newry mum-of-three, who is originally from Poland, believes all mothers deserve a chance for "self-development, self-care, independence and a secure, stable future".

She said: "I want to show you the ups and downs and true stories about mothers who follow their successful journey of having it all."

Patrycja owned her own beauty salon for 12 years and has sold it to follow her new journey.

The entrepreneur told Be: "I used to run my own salon for the last 12 years and on 1st September I decided to sell it.

"It was a fresh start for doing something totally different. I decided to start working with network marketing, just because of the three kids I am very limited with time and unfortunately last year, my mum passed away.

"It was a massive impact on our lives and our lifestyle because she was a massive help with the three young kids.

"I just decided it was the time to move on."

The Co Down-based mum went on to explain how her podcast came about.

She said: "The whole story started when my third child was born. I was running a beauty salon in Newry, it was very successful for 12 years.

"I knew how difficult it is and with my third child, I got into a lot of depressive states.

"I didn't want to go back to work and then the pandemic hit. I felt I had literally lost so much time with my children when they were young."

Patrycja added how she believes mums put a lot of pressure on themselves.

She continued: "After my mum passed away, I came up with the idea in May last year that I would love to get a community of women and start supporting each other. I still feel in the 21st century, we still don't support enough women... especially mothers."

The mum-of-three believes there 'isn't enough discussion' on "how pregnancy works, your hormonal state, anxiety [and] depression."

"When you go back to work you have to behave the same way you did before you had your child. All those ideas were going around my head," she added.

Patrycja says she then attended meetings with successful entrepreneurs who are also mums - and "believed in themselves".

"I started to invite a lot of mummies just to have a chat with me live on Instagram. It developed into a very regular thing.

"Every week or every two weeks I have a mummy from different backgrounds, different types of jobs, different lifestyle and different issues."

She then decided to turn this idea into a podcast, which she created within 45 days and has just launched.

Patrycja says a lot of "hard work, excitement and stress" has went into it.

In the episodes, she will discuss her own experiences including how she felt when she had to return to work, dealing with separation anxiety and at one point having three kids under the age of 3.

She wants other mums to know 'they are not alone'.

You can listen to the 'Boss Mum' podcast on Spotify, Audible and Apple Podcasts.
