Newly married couple killed in tree fall in Pune

PUNE: A newly married couple riding on scooter were killed and a five year-old girl was injured after a tree fell on them at Pimpale village on Saswad-Veer road in rural Pune around 8pm on Friday.

The deceased include Renu Kesh Gul Shekar Jadhav (32) and his wife Rasika Jadhav (28).

The injured victim Ishwari Deshmukh is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

Inspector Annasaheb Gholap from Saswad police on Saturday said: “The Jadhav couple and the girl riding on scooter were on way to their residence at Parinche village in Purandhar taluka from Saswad. It was raining heavily with thunder showers when the vad (banyan) tree fell on the bike. The impact of the incident was such that the couple died instantly but the girl escaped with injuries.”

Gholap said: “A farmer Mayur Jadhav (39) who found the couple dead gave information of the tree fall to police. We have performed post-mortem of the victims at the Sassoon general hospital. The hospital in its advance post-mortem report has certified the cause of their death due to multiple injuries.”

“We have registered a case relating to accidental death under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure,” he added.
